What I have done in 13.2

January 13 :

Today, I devoted myself to the topic “climatic changes”. Firstly, I searched on the internet for general information concerning this topic, for example its reasons and effects, to get an overview.

Afterwards, I reflected about my attitude towards climatic changes and wrote it down. Then I approached the computer programme ‘”audacity” which turned out to be not as complicated as I thought before.

Eventually, I recorded my first, short podcast dealing with my attitude towards climatic changes.

January 20 :

This Thursday, I compiled a list of examples of “US basics” used in all of the inaugural speeches we examined. This took more time than I guessed.

Thereafter, I read the article “Obamas Versprechen” on the ZEIT homepage dealing with Germany’s hopes and expectations concerning Obama’s entrance on the president office, because Anke and I would like to focus on the German perspective during the next weeks.

After rereading the text, I made some notes of the most important facts mentioned in the article.

January 27 :

No lesson due to the speech on the topics relevant to the German-Abitur J

February 3 :

Short holidays – No lesson! J

February 10 :

This lesson, I carried on with me work dealing with hopes, changes and reality in connection with Obama’s US presidency from the perspective of Germany. I read several articles and collected the most important information.

In addition, I informed myself of the case of the coma patient Eluana Englaro who died yesterday after her artificial nourishment was ceased. After having read the article on ‘SPIEGEL online’, I thought about arguments supporting Eluana’s family’s decision to let her die after 17 years of vegetative state.

Then, at 3.00 o’clock we had a discussion in terms of this controversial subject. We formed two groups: one group representing Prime Minister Silvia Berlusconi who wanted to cancel the termination of Eluana’s nourishment and another group, to which I belonged, defending Eluana’s family’s decision. We came to the conclusion that we mostly support the family’s behaviour, although the decision to end somebody’s life, even if he or she will never regain consciousness or awareness, is always dreadfully difficult.

February 17 :

Today, I recorded my news-podcast concerned with the Nazi-march-up in Dresden as well as with the counterdemonstrations going under the slogan “Go thinking” which have taken place in Dresden this weekend.

Because I had already written my news-text at home, I just had to work with audacity in order to record my voice. Nevertheless, it was not as easy as I (and some classmates) thought, because we were disrupted by another class, also having lesson in the b@hnanum. Having to come to terms with this situation, we recorded our podcasts as best we could.

February 24 :

We watched the (quite extraordinary) “Moon Palace” Performance in Delmenhorst, therefore: again no lesson!

March 3 :

This day, I completed the text about Obama’s intended closing of the prisoner camp in Guantanamo, I started to write at the weekend.

Then, at 14:30 h, we went to the assembly hall where he had our photograph for the Abi-newspaper taken by David.

After the ‘photo session’, Anke and I recorded our podcast with the title “Obamamania”, dealing with the German perspective of Obama’s presidency. We worked on it for the last weeks and were glad as we finished it with more or less few slips of the tongue.

March 10 :

In today’s lesson, I recorded my news-podcast again, because the last recording didn’t work. Moreover, I did some thinking about the question if Obama can be the world savior, because this question was the central question of the debate we would have at 3 o’clock. Although I definitely came to the conclusion that I was opposed to the opinion Obama could lead/save the whole world, it was quite difficult for me du find appropriate arguments for my attitude.

During the debate, we remarked that there are many counterarguments, but also quite a lot pro-arguments concerning Obama’s leadership. Nonetheless, weighing the pros and cons, we concluded that it is virtually impossible that a single person is capable of reigning over the whole world.

Besides, while listening to several arguments of both sides, I started to form my own view on the topic, which was more thought-out than my ideas before. Consequently, for me it was very helpful to get some input from the other students to approach the issue.

  1. Excellent work in your “working diary”, Maren, and I bet the results are super, too. You work very well structured and straight down to the point, which is really good and quite efficient. I appreciate your devotion, thanks for that .-)
